The Partnered Learning Project
Project Handbook
A Guide to Early Planning for the Development of an Interprofessional Collaboration and Education Program in a Healthcare Setting
The Partnered Learning Project (PLP) simultaneously focused on increasing interprofessional collaboration capacity among practicing healthcare workers and pre-licensure healthcare students. Six clinical teams of practicing healthcare workers each participated in an interprofessional collaboration workshop. Each of these clinical teams then hosted healthcare students on placement while the students participated in a series of interprofessional education learning activities. These activities were conducted as part of a research study to both increase IPC capacity among staff and students and to add to our understanding of IPC/IPE learning experiences. The PLP Project Handbook has been designed to share some of the knowledge and insights that were gained through the planning and implementation of this IPC/IPE project.
Each section of this Handbook is organized into two sections:
- Questions to Consider – topics for consideration when planning an IPC/IPE program
- Our Story: PLP Challenges & Strategies – Illustrative examples of some implementation challenges encountered and how they were handled to keep the project moving forward.
Some comprehensive IPC/IPE related toolkits and other valuable resources have been developed through other recent initiatives. Some of these that were most relevant to the PLP project are referenced under the Resources tab of this website. We have attempted to avoid covering the same ground as these other works. Rather we have sought to capture some key aspects of our unique experience of implementing this IPC/IPE program in order add to the shared knowledge about IPC learning for healthcare professionals. This site has been designed to allow visitors to select an individual topic that interests you or to download the PLP Project Handbook in its entirety.
