The Partnered Learning Project

A study in Interprofessional Collaboration and Interprofessional Learning

Partners

The Partnered Learning Project (PLP) was funded by HealthForceOntario. The project implementation period was January 2008 through June 2009. It is anticipated that the findings from this study will first be presented in the fall of 2009.

The Research Partners directly involved in the PLP study were:

Project

The Unique PLP Contribution

Two reasons in particular suggest that the Partnered Learning Project materials should be of interest to our target audience.  The PLP study simultaneously focused on practicing professionals (IPC) as well as healthcare students on placement (IPE).  The study also adapted IPE curriculum materials for use in a paediatric hospital setting.  This website has been designed to share both our experience in managing the complexity of implementing a combined IPC / IPE program and to share the materials that were designed or adapted for our project curriculum.  To supplement and provide a wider context for these materials, our Resources section also includes a short list of currently available resources that helped inform our thinking and curriculum development work.

Website

The PLP Website

The PLP website has been developed to ensure the insights and experience gained over the course of this project are shared widely with the academic community and other healthcare educators interested in interprofessional collaboration.  IPC / IPE is an evolving field of study with new thinking and resources regularly emerging.  Many useful resources and project reports have already been posted on the web.  The PLP group has endeavored to add to this body of knowledge without duplicating the efforts of others.

Three core sections form the heart of this website.  The PLP Project Handbook has been designed to stimulate thinking for those who may be contemplating the development of an IPC / IPE project.  The handbook poses a series of questions your group may wish to consider in the early planning stages of a similar project.  We have also woven in some examples of topical challenges and strategies, drawn from our own implementation experience.
